Privacy policy
This website processes only the data required for operating the website, providing the game content and, optionally, voluntary highscore entries. Own web app components such as code, layout, logos, help text and legal pages must be distinguished from displayed Wikipedia content.
1. Controller
Henric Steuernagel is responsible for data processing on this website. You can find the contact details above in the legal notice.
2. Hosting
The website is hosted using an IONOS web hosting package. When the website is accessed, technically required connection data and server log files may be processed by the hosting environment, in particular IP address, date and time of access, requested file, amount of transferred data, browser type and operating system. This processing is carried out to provide the website securely and reliably.
3. Gameplay and server-side data
For the daily duel, start and target articles are stored server-side so that the respective duel can be archived and loaded again. If you voluntarily enter a name into the highscore, the name, click count, start article, target article, game day and timestamp of the entry are stored. Entering a name is voluntary; without entering a name, no highscore entry is stored. These data belong to WikiPath's own gameplay function and not to the displayed Wikipedia content. They are not used for advertising, tracking or profiling.
4. Local storage in the browser
WikiPath stores only functional session data in the browser via sessionStorage, currently the selected language and the selected light/dark theme. The site does not currently set persistent cookies or persistent localStorage entries for these functions. Outdated legacy entries from older versions may be removed when the page loads.
5. Wikipedia content and Wikimedia servers
Article text is loaded server-side and converted into a playable view. This technically adapted display of Wikipedia text must be distinguished from WikiPath's own web app components such as gameplay logic, navigation, highscores, layout and legal texts. When article images are displayed, your browser requests image files or file pages directly from Wikimedia servers or Wikimedia Commons. In the English language version, only images that could be identified through Wikimedia Commons are displayed for that purpose. In that process, technically required connection data such as your IP address is transmitted to those recipients. More information can be found in the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy. Because external content is delivered through globally distributed infrastructure, processing may also take place outside the EU/EEA.
6. External links and voluntary support services
The website may contain external links, for example to 13delusions.com, PayPal or Buy Me a Coffee. When you click such links, you leave WikiPath. The privacy policies and terms of the respective provider then apply.
7. Legal bases
The processing of technically necessary data is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for the secure and functional provision of the website. My legitimate interest lies in the secure, stable and low-abuse operation of the service. Voluntary highscore entries are processed to provide the game function expressly requested by you on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Where information is stored on or read from your device, this is done exclusively for the functional settings you requested, on the basis of section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG.
8. Retention period
Server log data is stored only as long as necessary for operation, security and technical troubleshooting, usually only for a short period of a few days unless longer retention is exceptionally required to investigate specific malfunctions or abuse. Highscore entries generally remain visible as part of the relevant daily archive as long as the archive and highscore feature is offered, unless deletion is requested earlier.
9. Recipients and possible third-country processing
Recipients of personal data may in particular include the hosting provider IONOS and, when article images are displayed, Wikimedia servers. Where external content and globally operated infrastructure are involved, processing in countries outside the EU/EEA cannot be ruled out.
10. Your rights, including the right to object
Subject to the statutory requirements, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority. Where data is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you also have the right to object to that processing on grounds relating to your particular situation. If you want a highscore entry you submitted to be deleted, an informal email to contact@13delusions.com is sufficient; date, name and click count are helpful.
11. Notes on Wikipedia licenses and images
Wikipedia text shown in WikiPath is presented in a technically adapted game view. For each article, WikiPath links to the original page, page history and, where available, the specific revision used. Text reuse follows the license notices customary for Wikipedia, in particular CC BY-SA 4.0. To the extent that the technical game view constitutes a copyright-relevant adaptation or modification, that adapted text presentation is also provided under CC BY-SA 4.0. These license notices apply to the displayed Wikipedia content and its technical adaptation, not automatically to WikiPath's remaining source code, layout, logos, game mechanics, highscores or legal texts. Image licenses may differ; in the English language version, only images identified through Wikimedia Commons are displayed. Where identifiable, the file page, creator and license are shown directly below the image.
