This web app processes technically necessary data for operation and – if you use it voluntarily – highscore data. Some display settings are stored in the browser only for the current session. Own web app components such as code, layout, logos, help text and legal text must be distinguished from displayed Wikipedia content.
Henric Steuernagel is responsible for this website; contact details can be found in the legal notice.
When you access the website, hosting may generate technically necessary connection data and server log files. This may include IP address, date and time, requested file, amount of transferred data, browser type and operating system. This processing is carried out for the technical provision, stability and security of the website. The hosting provider is the primary recipient of this data. WikiPath does not merge this data with a gameplay profile. The exact retention period depends on the hosting provider's technical and security-related requirements. In addition, technically prepared Wikipedia responses and metadata may be cached temporarily on the server for limited periods in order to improve loading times, stability and consistent delivery of the game view.
For the daily duel, the start and target article are stored server-side for each day so the duel can be archived and replayed later. If you voluntarily enter a name into the highscore list, your name, click count, start, target, game date and entry timestamp are stored. These entries belong to WikiPath's own gameplay function and not to the displayed Wikipedia content. Highscore entries remain visible as part of the relevant daily archive as long as the archive and highscore function is offered, unless deletion is requested earlier.
WikiPath stores only session-based functional settings locally in the browser for the current browser session, currently in particular the selected language and the article-image display setting via sessionStorage. The design starts in dark mode on each page visit. The web app currently does not set persistent cookies or persistent localStorage entries for these functions. Outdated settings from earlier versions may be removed automatically when the page loads. An offline cache via service worker is currently not created.
The game content is based on Wikipedia articles. Article text is loaded server-side and technically adapted for the game view. This technically adapted display of Wikipedia text must be distinguished from WikiPath's own web app components such as gameplay logic, navigation, highscores, layout and legal text. When article images are displayed, your browser may request image files and file-description pages directly from Wikimedia servers or Wikimedia Commons; this transmits technically required connection data such as your IP address to those providers. If you disable image display with the toggle, no article images and no related image-credit blocks from Wikimedia are embedded in the game view for the current session. In the English language version, only images that could be identified through Wikimedia Commons are displayed. Because external content may be delivered through globally distributed infrastructure, processing outside the EU/EEA cannot be ruled out. This website also contains external links, for example to PayPal, Buy Me a Coffee and 13delusions.com. When clicking such links, the privacy policies of the respective providers apply.
At the moment, this website does not use advertising cookies, user tracking or embedded analytics tools. For explicitly requested display settings, the web app only uses session-based browser storage without marketing or profiling purposes.
The processing of technically necessary data is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for the secure and functional provision of the website. Voluntary highscore entries are processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR in order to provide the function you explicitly requested. To the extent that information is stored in or read from your device, this is done exclusively for functional settings requested by you on the basis of Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG.
Recipients of personal data include in particular the hosting provider of this website and – when article images are shown – the Wikimedia servers from which your browser requests image files or file pages. You can request deletion of a highscore entry you submitted at any time by emailing contact@13delusions.com; including date, name and click count is helpful. Within the scope of applicable law, you also have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.
Wikipedia text shown in WikiPath is only displayed in a technically adapted game view. For each article, WikiPath links to the original page, page history and – where available – the used revision. Text reuse follows the license notices customary for Wikipedia, in particular CC BY-SA 4.0. These license notices apply to the displayed Wikipedia content and its technical adaptation, not automatically to WikiPath's remaining source code, layout, logos, game mechanics, highscores or legal text. Image licenses may differ; in the English language version, only images identified through Wikimedia Commons are displayed. Where available, the file page, creator and license are shown directly below the image. WikiPath is an independent project and is not affiliated with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation.

WikiPath is a Wikipedia path-finding game: you start on one article and may only navigate to the goal using visible links inside the loaded article. Every click counts, including the back button.
Daily duel: Every day there is one fixed combination of start article and target article. Everyone plays the same challenge. That duel is archived and can be replayed later.
Free play: Here you also get a start article, but the target is chosen randomly. You can optionally choose a topic area in the start menu so the target comes from a specific category.
The goal of the site is to turn Wikipedia into a small navigation game: daily shared challenges with archive and highscores — plus a free mode for spontaneous random routes.
